It was a historic night for the heavy metal band Uriah Heep as they were inducted into the Heavy Metal Hall of Fame during this performance at Mohegan Sun. At 50 years of performing and counting they are still relevant and definitely a critical part of the history of heavy metal. Many groups since the late 60’s have modeled themselves after the early groundbreakers like Uriah Heep.
The band has not rested on their laurels though and proved it as they started the evening performing “Grazed by Heaven” from their 25th album released in 2018 “Living The Dream.” Not content to be a band who just revamps the old sounds of the 60’s and early 70’s “glory days” Uriah Heep has continued to release new music and albums and Bernie Shaw has not lost anything with his vocals.
Uriah Heep consists of Mick Box on guitar and the only original member who has been with the band since 1969, Bernie Shaw on vocals, Phil Lanzon on Keyboard, Dave Rimmer on bass and Russell Gilbrook on drums.
They have influenced many band who have followed since their 1969 beginnings.
The band played for an hour with both new selections and some cuts from the past 50 years. Shaw stated it was hard to pick from such a vast collection spanning so many years but hoped the audience was happy with their choices.
Uriah Heep finished out their set with “Easy Livin’” and was enthusiastically applauded by the audience for their decades of performing.
