John Fogerty – The Celebration Tour
April 27, 2023
Mohegan Sun Arena
John Fogerty brought his band to the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut to begin a tour that celebrated his 50 years of musical touring and delighting audiences with his well-known music. Fogerty began the concert explaining the reason the tour was called The Celebration Tour with the announcement that after decades of struggle and legal battles he has recently gotten back all the publishing rights to his Creedence Clearwater Revival music and thanked his wife Julie for pushing him to keep up the fight and not give up on getting his full catalog of music rights back. He was enthusiastic about once again playing and singing the well-known Creedence Clearwater Revival songs with renewed vigor knowing he had won the hard-fought battle with the record label that had kept his rights from him.
The show started with “Bad Moon Rising.” He played many of his CCR songs as well as his solo songs. He not only did some of his best writing during his CCR days but had solo hits with “The Old Man Down the Road” and “Centerfield” both of which he included in the Mohegan Sun lineup.
Fogerty sang “Joy of My Life”, a song he wrote for his wife Julie who stood by him and he gave her credit for not giving up and always standing by his side.
As a celebration of his newly regained rights to his music just prior to his encore a table was rolled out with champagne and Fogerty thanked the audience for the decades of support and a celebration of his new found freedom to unabashedly sing his own songs after so long a fight. He then raised a glass and toasted the audience and thanked all who stood by him over the years.
Fogerty then launched into an encore of “Down on the Corner” and finishing the night with “Proud Mary.” During the encore pretty much all of the crowd was on their feet cheering and singing. They showed their appreciation for one of the most well-known and loved artists of our time with a great round of applause at the end.
The lead in band was Hardy Har who also accompanied him as his back up band during the concert. Hardy Har coincidentally led by two of Fogerty’s sons, Shane Fogerty and Tyler Fogerty.
Fogerty will continue touring during 2023 and if you get the chance to see him for the first time or your tenth don’t hesitate. He still delivers a fun evening with first class music. He also has a new found sense of excitement singing songs now that they are his again.
